PURPOSE:To prevent chattering from being generated on the cut surface of a sample piece by slicing the sample piece into a thin piece through the rotation of a rotary blade while moving a stage. CONSTITUTION:A gear motor 16 is started to start the reciprocal motion of a movable member 12 and a DC motor 20 which drives the rotary blade 11 is placed in a stand-by state and rotated including a period before and after the member 12 reaches its lower dead point. A stepping motor 34 which moves the stage 31 rotates so as to move by a specific quantity when the member 12 is almost at the lower dead point. Therefore, the sample piece on the stage 31 while fed by a specific quantity is sliced into the thin piece. One thin piece is cut while the rotary blade 11 makes one rotation, so the same blade edge never performs cutting >=2 times, and the edge of the rotary blade 11 never enters reciprocal motion. Consequently, the ample piece need not be swung and chattering which makes the cut surface irregular is precluded.
