PURPOSE:To prevent a deficiency in contrast due to the saturation of a liquid crystal or a deficiency in amplitude by providing a means which varies a bias voltage applied to the liquid crystal and a means which adjusts the amplitude of a signal voltage according to the bias. CONSTITUTION:The means which varies the bias voltage applied to the liquid crystal and the means which adjusts the amplitude of the signal voltage according to the bias are provided. Namely, a bias adjusting potentiometer 3 adjusts the bias voltage of a liquid crystal display 2 to vary its light view angle. Further, a voltage converting circuit 4 generates a control voltage for a voltage- controlled variable gain amplifier. Thus, the amplitude of the signal voltage is controlled according to variation in the bias voltage of the liquid crystal display 2 to preclude saturation or deficiency in contrast. Consequently, a liquid crystal display device is obtained which has a wide light view angle adjustment range or brightness adjustment range where an excellent halftone display is obtained.
