METHOD FOR UNDERCOATING POLYESTER FILM FOR PHOTOGRAPHY

PURPOSE:To improve the adhesion of a gelatin emulsion to a film by successively forming a layer contg. an aq. dispersed polymer and a layer contg. a fluorine- contg. surfactant and an epoxy compd. on the surface of the film treated by corona discharge. CONSTITUTION:A first layer contg. an aq. dispersed polymer such as polyurethane latex is formed on the surface of a polyester film base for photography treated by corona discharge. A second layer contg. a fluorine-contg. surfactant such as a compd. represented by formula I and a compd. having two or more epoxy groups such as a compd. represented by formula II is formed on the first layer. A silver halide-gelatin emulsion is then coated on the surface of the second layer. A water soluble polymer such as gelatin and fine powder of silicon dioxide or the like are desirably incorporated into the second layer. By this method, the gelatin emulsion exhibits superior adhesion to the film base.
