A connector has socket-type terminals (20), each terminal having a main body part (22) from the front end of which two arms (24) project, as cantilevers. The inner part (25) of each arm (24) is curved, generally arcuate, and the outer part (26) of each arm extends generally straight and inclined away from each other. A contact position (27) is formed at the junction between the inner and outer part. Such terminals are housed in slots (40) in a plug and a receptacle (11) has pins (21) which are inserted into the terminals (20). Cam surfaces (51-55) on the receptacle (11) engage with the free ends (34) of the arms after partial insertion of the pins (21) and press the arms (24) together, pushing the contact positions (27) into contact with the pins (21). A low insertion force is obtained. |
