PURPOSE:To simplify a port management, and to quickly execute recovery at the time when an error is generated, by managing the port through a conversion table for converting mutually a virtual port number and a real port number. CONSTITUTION:The microprocessor 11 of a channel controller 10 designates an unused virtual port number, at the time of requesting the obtaining of the ports 13-16 of an interface to a main storage device 10, to an interface control circuit 12. When the circuit 12 succeeds in obtaining the port, the real port number of its port is allowed to correspond to the virtual port number and registered to a port number conversion table 17. Thereafter, by this table 17, the virtual port number and the real port number are converted mutually and the port management is simplified, and the recovery at the time when an error is generated can be executed quickly.
