PURPOSE:To reinforce swirl generated in a combustion chamber, so as to raise the combustibility, by controlling a control valve as compensating the opening of this control valve set in a secondary intake route, toward the valve-closing side, as the temperature of the intake air becomes lower, in the preset low-load- range of an engine. CONSTITUTION:A common intake route 11 is separated into a primary intake route 15 adapted to always flow intake air regardless of quantity of engine load, and a secondary intake route 16 adapted to flow intake air mainly at preset middle or high load, at a branching part 14 on the lower stream of a throttle valve 13. The secondary intake route 16 is formed with a control valve 17 adapted to control the strength of swirl. In this case, the control valve 17 is driven by an actuator 19 through a link work 18, and this actuator 19 is controlled by a control circuit 20. Then, intake air temperature detected by a temperature sensor 23, and others are input in the control circuit 20, for controlling the control valve 17 to the preset desired opening. At this time, the control is performed as compensating the opening of the control valve 17 toward the valve-closing side, as the temperature of the intake air becomes lower.
