1,147,308. Extracting carboxylic acids. MELLE-BEZONS. 2 Aug., 1967 [4 Aug., 1966; 22 March, 1967], No. 35493/67. Heading C2C. A process for extracting citric, itaconic and lactic acids from aqueous solutions produced by fermentation and tartaric acid produced from tartar, comprises extracting the acids with a solvent comprising a mixture of triisobutyl phosphate, or a tri-alkyl phosphate in which the alkyl groups may be the same or different and have 2-5 C atoms, and a minor proportion of at least one liquid diluent with a specific weight lower than the phosphate, a low solubility in water and chemically inert to the acid. Diluents include hydrocarbons, ethers, esters and ketones. The extraction may be continuous and counter-currently in two stages, the second counter-extraction being at a higher temperature than the first extraction. Two types of apparatus for the continuous extraction is described.
|
