Silage material, which has very good keeping quality in the absence of air, spoils on contact with atmospheric oxygen, since aerobic bacteria decompose the silage material. The object is thus to make the silage material keep longer by means of a process. The object is achieved according to the invention in that sorbic acid as a preservative in a suitable concentration is intimately mixed with the silage material in the feeding of herbivorous and omnivorous mammals, in particular horses, cattle and pigs. The use of the preserved silage material is particularly well suited to users who only feed small amounts of silage. |
