PURPOSE:To accurately calculate and display a tape residual time by finding out a 1st tape residual time from the rotational frequency of a feeding reel and a tape traveling distance, finding out a 2nd tape residual time from an angular speed ratio between the feeding reel and a winding reel and finding out a weighed means based on specific weighting factors. CONSTITUTION:Proper weighting factors A, B are set up in the tape residual time T1 shown by an equality I and a tape residual time T2 shown by an equality II to calculate a tape residual time T3 obtained by finding out the weighted mean of both the values. In these equalities, RS is a tape winding radius of the feeding reel, RO is a reel hub radius, (t) is tape thickness, (v) is a tape feeding speed, L is the whole length of the tape, omegas is an angular speed of the feeding reel, and omegaT is the angular speed of the winding reel. When the weighting factors are selected so that errors due to the dispersion of tape thickness are canceled each other, an accurate tape residual time can be obtained as compared to the time independently found out on the basis of the 1st and 2nd calculation formulas.
