<p>Ethyleneglycoles are produced by reacting MeOH with org. peroxides [of formula R-O-O-R', R and R'=C3-12 alkyl or aralkyl, i.e. di-t- butylperoxide, t-butylethylbenzylperoxide and formaldehyde in the presence of water at 100-200 esp. 125-175 deg.C for 0.25-8 esp. 0.5-4 hrs. Using ranges of org. peroxides (P) and water (W) are as follows; (i) P ca. 6-12 wt.%, W ca. 0.5-35 wt.% (ii) P ca. 15-20 wt.%, W ca. 0.5-15 wt.%, (iii) P ca. 12-15 wt.%, W ca. 0.5-25 wt.% and (iv) P ca. 20-25 wt.%, W ca. 20-25 wt.%, W ca. 0.5-10 wt.%.
