PURPOSE:To discriminate orientation of crystal of a crystalline body for light beam by irradiating the crystalline body with light beam while rotating the crystalline body around a referential direction, and observing a pattern of reflection by shielding reflected light with a screen. CONSTITUTION:A crystalline ingot 10 is held at a referential direction 20 of working with a holding means 14 of a working machine 12, and the ingot 10 is rotated with a rotating means 16 in the direction represented by an arrow mark 42 around the working direction 20. Then, light beam 22 having a direction related spatially and selectively to the working direction 20 is supplied to the ingot 10 from a device 30 for detecting the orientation of the crystal of the ingot 10 referring to the working direction 20. The light beam 22 is reflected towards several directions after striking the surface of the ingot 10, and a pattern is formed on a screen 32 by shielding the reflected light 22a with the screen 32. The orientation of crystal of the ingot 10 with reference to the light beam 22 is discriminated by the observation of the pattern.
