PURPOSE:To keep good load bearing, seizure resistant and fatigue resistant characteristics for a long period of use by immersing a Cu alloy skeleton struc ture layer bonded to a backup metal into a melting bath containing Pb and In so that a Pb layer containing In is present by 20mum or more from a surface. CONSTITUTION:A strip 24 of a bimetal structure with a backup metal and a lining, after its surface is washed, is introduced into a Pb-In bath 23 being kept in a melting condition by means of a burner flame 21 of a bath tub 20, passed through a wiping device 22, cooled, and undergoes a required machining. Through this process, a bearing layer is formed with a Cu layer of a Cu alloy skeleton structure and a layer containing Pb so as to contain In by a depth of 20mum or more from its surface. As a result, corrosion resistance and strength of the bearing are improved and good load bearing, seizure resistant and fatigue resistant characteristics can be maintained for a long period of use.
