TAXIWAY SAFETY DEVICE FOR AIRPORTS

The safety system uses a stop barrier extending across the width of the runway positioned across an entry or exit point for the runway. Vehicle detectors are positioned infront and behind the stop barrier, each pref. comprising a group of individual detectors. Pref. a further detector is located beyond the runway entry point, all the detectors able to distinguish between vehicles and aircraft. The stop barrier pref. uses a line of red lights selectively switched ON and OFF. A separate line of green lights are pref. located behind the barrier for displaying the centre line of the exit or entry road.
