PURPOSE:To prevent the nonuniformity of an image from appearing at the time of making incident a beam of light, by setting the driving pulse stop period of a horizontal transfer register at a ratio more thin the specified percentage of one horizontal scanning period. CONSTITUTION:A device is constructed so that a driving pulse is applied from a clock generator 22 independently on a horizontal CCD register 4, a first and a second CCD registers 5 and 7, and a switching gate 8 respectively, and the outputs obtained from two output terminals 11 and 12 of a solid-state image pickup device are synthesized by a change-over switch 13 driven by a switching pulse 15 from the clock generator 22 similarly, and is outputted from an output terminal 14. As for the driving of the solid-state image pickup device, the pulse stop period of the horizontal CCD register 4 is set at the ratio >=20% of one horizontal scanning period. Therefore, it is possible to secure thc pulse width of the driving pulse for a vertical CCD register sufficiently.
