PURPOSE:To obtain modified calcium carbonate useful as a filler for making neutral paper, capable of carrying out high-degree filling, by treating calcium carbonate with a cationic compound and a cationic resin and providing the surface of the particles with positive zeta electric potential. CONSTITUTION:Calcium carbonate particles or slurry containing calcium carbonate particles is treated with a compound and/or a resin containing a tertiary amino group or a quaternary ammonium group. Consequently, the surface of the calcium carbonate particles is sufficiently provided with positive zeta electric potential stably. Therefore, when the above-mentioned treated modified calcium carbonate is used as a filler for making neutral paper, bond strength between negatively charged pulp fiber slurry and calcium carbonate is increased. Consequently, falling of the filler used is prevented, high-degree filling is attained and paper making yield is extremely raised. |
