PURPOSE:To relaxing the restriction to the position of installation and to enhance the efficiency of a water wheel device by supporting a pair of front and rear shafts, rotatably between a pair of hulls of a catamaran, by longitudinally stretching a chain between sprockets provided at both ends of each shaft, and by laying water receiving vanes between support rods supported to the chain. CONSTITUTION:A water wheel device is installed on a catamaran 1 which is anchored on a river. Water blades 23 which are supported by a chain 12 stretched between sprockets 11, through the intermediary of support rods 21, receive the water stream of the river which flows through the water channel 4 between a pair of hulls of the catamaran 1 so that the chain 12 is rotated as the catamaran advances, and therefore, the sprockets 11 are rotated. Accordingly, shafts 7 supporting the sprockets 11 are also rotated, and therefore power are obtained through, for example, these shafts 7. When the level of water varies, the catamaran 1 is raised and lowered in association with the variation, and therefore, the positional relationship between the water receiving vanes 23 and the water stream is maintained to be constant. Further, more than two of the water receiving vanes are always located under water so that the energy conversion efficiency may be enhanced.
