The alarm system comprises a transmitter connectable to one or more receivers via connections in a telephone system. The transmitter partly comprises a programmable ringing device which dependent upon an initiation takes care of the programming, and partly incorporates or is connected to a telephone appts. The telephone appts. number initiation component, e.g. a set of buttons is connected to a component affected by the programming, so that the first number allocated to the alarm receiving unit within the telephone system, and the second number, i.e. a code number, allocated to the transmitter permit identification of the transmitter in the receiver.
