PURPOSE:To accurately detect the rotating speed of an engine at all times regardless of a change in the operation state of the engine by selecting and switching masks automatically according to the operation state of the engine. CONSTITUTION:A signal for detection of the quantity of sucked air is outputted from an air flow sensor 3 and this output is supplied to a control unit (CU) 15. Further, a slot body 5 is provided with a throttle sensor 18 which detects the opening extent of a throttle valve and a signal from this sensor 18 is also inputted to the CU 15. Further, an ignition coil 17 is controlled by a distributor 16 to perform ignition control. At this time, signals from the primary side and minus side of the coil 17 are inputted to the CU 15. Thus, the CU 15 inputs the voltage waveform of the primary side from the coil 17 and performs arithmetic processing to detect the rotating speed of the engine. Thus, the engine rotating speed is accurately detected at all times.
