PURPOSE:To easily change and update the data of a program or the like by mounting attachably and detachably a storage medium on a retrieving device main body and providing a control means in the retrieving device body and reading a part of data of the control means from the storage medium. CONSTITUTION:A flexible disk 40 is mounted attachably and detachably on the attaching aperture 25 of the retrieving device main body R, and at least a part of data of the program or the like of a microcomputer 32 is written on the disk 40. In this case, the microcomputer 32 reads the data of the program or the like written on the flexible disk 40 through a flexible disk unit 37 by the program stored in a ROM 38 and writes it in a RAM 39 when being started. Thereafter, the microcomputer 32 is operated by the program written in the RAM 39. Thus, the program is easily changed and updated.
