<p>PURPOSE:To enable character data to be displayed over the entire region of a display area of a display device, eliminate the need for a plurality of LEDs and thereby reduce manufacturing cost, by displaying printing format information and printing operation mode information through switching the display device. CONSTITUTION:In a typewriter mode, a main CPU 30 causes a printing mechanism PM to print characters or symbols corresponding to data inputted through character keys, based on a control program, and sequentially stores printing data into a line buffer 51 correspondingly to printing positions. In a word processor mode, input data for two printing lines is stored into the line buffer 51, and is displayed on a display device 75, and the data is sequentially stored into a text memory 52. In response to an operation on a mode display key 19, an auto-underlining key 11, a bold key 12 or the like, various format or mode setting information is displayed through switching the display device 75.</p> |
