The invention relates to a device which can be fitted to original masts and booms making it possible to reduce and store the mainsail of a sailing boat without increasing the hollow thereof when winding, it being possible to adjust said hollow, moreover, by acting on the lacing. This device is made up of a groove 1 suspended from an articulated post 2. The base of the groove is aligned with the anchoring point. The bolt rope sheath 6 runs around the pin fixed to the head and centred inside the groove. Coming out of the groove when the bolt rope winds on itself, it is reduced to two thicknesses of cloth. The lacing provides the flexible link between the mast and the groove. The control is transmitted to the end of the boom so as to be manipulated from the cockpit. The end fittings fitted to the boom by the stirrup pieces 20 support the sail protection cover. The section 23 may be equipped with a device for taking up the hollow. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for rolling up the mainsail of a boat. <IMAGE>
