PURPOSE:To improve the resolution of an interlaced scanning television signal in a perpendicular direction and to reduce the shade off of the image of a moving body, by reducing a scanning period and a retrace period to the half of a horizontal scanning period. CONSTITUTION:An optical image is image-formed on the photoelectric plane of an electrostatic deflecting image pickup tube 2 by a lens 1. Next, on each of the horizontal and the vertical deflecting electrodes 4 and 5 of the image pickup tube 2, the output of a chopping wave generator 9 and that of a step generator 10 are added. Thereby, the output of the image pickup tube 2 becomes a chopping wave signal (a) setting H/2 as TS and a remaining H/2 as TR. Only a part equivalent to the TS is taken out from the signal, and is set as a signal (b). The signal is doubled at a time base expansion circuit 14, and the time length of H/2 is magnified to H, then, a signal (c) is generated. A blanking signal 16 is mixed on the output of the expansion circuit 14, then, an output 17 is generated. In such way, it is possible to obtain a purpose.
