The invention relates to a biosynthetic process for manufacture of antibiotic salinomycin by production of strains of the microorganism Streptomyces albus, derived from the strain ATCC 21838. The microorganism is cultured under reduced aerobic conditions in a culture medium containing an organic carbon source, nitrogen source, mineral salts, methionine amino acid and a small amount of vitamins, either D biotin or pyridoxine (B6). Thanks to the presence of the vitamins and methionine a higher and more stable yield of the antibiotic is obtained more quickly, which makes the process shorter. Plant oils and anti-foaming agents of the silicon type are used as anti- foaming agents. The antibiotic is isolated from the fermented solution in the standard manner.
