PURPOSE:To manufacture a Cu alloy having satisfactory electrical conductivity and superior spring characteristics by adding specified percentages of Cr and Zr to Cu and regulating the size of Cr and Zr sulfides as inclusions to a specified value or below. CONSTITUTION:A Cu alloy consisting of 0.05-1.0wt% Cr, 0.05-1.0wt% Zr and the balance Cu with inevitable impurities or further contg. 0.05-1.0wt% one or more among Al, Be, Co, Fe, Ni, Hf, In, Mo, Mg, Pb, Si, Te, Sn, Ti and Zn is manufactured. The size of Cr and Zr sulfides as inclusions in the Cu alloy is regulated to <=1.0mum by restricting the S content in an ingot of the alloy to <=about 0.0015wt% and properly selecting conditions during soln. heat treatment, cold working and aging. A high strength Cu alloy having high electrical conductivity and suitable for use as a lead material for a semiconductor device or an electrically conductive spring material is obtd.
