According to the invention, vaulted roofs, for example of aircraft hangars, are cultivated with greenery with the aid of a growth layer, the plants of which are firmly rooted in a root mat or a nonwoven or a fabric, by laying the growth layer which is prepared with firmly rooted plants, the growth layer being rolled up at both ends and being unrolled again at both ends after it has been positioned on the roof ridge.
