PURPOSE:To allow the communication speed of a line terminator from a data processor side by detecting a transmission/reception timing signal supplied from the line terminator, measuring the communication speed from the detection output so as to inform it to the data processor. CONSTITUTION:A clock change detection section 7 inputs a transmission/ reception timing signal from a synchronizing subscriber's data line terminator 20 via a line interface section 5 and a transmission/reception timing signal line 6 to detect a clock change point. In detecting the clock change point, it is informed to the control section 3 through the clock change signal line 8. When the communication speed measuring command is started from the control section 3, the generation of clock change point detection notice is awaited from the clock change signal line 8 and when the change point is detected, the measurement of the clock width of the transmission/reception timing signal is started. When the next change point is detected, the measurement of the clock width of the transmission/reception timing signal is finished and the communication speed corresponding to the time measured before is reported to the data processor 10.
