The intention is that the new top part should be versatile and have only a small number of cheap-to-produce injection-moulded plastic parts. It should also offer increased security against unauthorised operation of the valve. For this purpose, the invention provides a spindle driver (2) which can be fastened to the valve spindle (15) and is coupled positively to the control knob (1) only in the position of a lock cylinder (5), the latter being offset radially from the spindle axis, which allows the operation of the valve. The lock cylinder (5) can be rotated through 180@ against stops by means of a key (11). In one end position, i.e. with the top part unlocked, it engages by means of a projection (10) in recesses (9) in the spindle driver (2) and, in the other end position, i.e. with the top part locked, it is out of engagement with the spindle driver (2) and the control knob (1) can rotate freely. The injection-moulded plastic parts can be assembled without tools and can also be fitted retrospectively to valves of all kinds. <IMAGE>
