PURPOSE:To relieve the burden of a starter motor, by a method wherein the opening of a throttle valve provided in the down stream of a mixer in a suction passage is kept at a low value until the number of revolutions of an engine is increased to a given value during starting. CONSTITUTION:A mixer and a throttle valve 1 are situated in a suction passage 13 of a gas engine. A signal from a number of revolutions sensor 19 is inputted to a control device 10, and during starting of the engine, the opening of a throttle valve 1 is held at a low value until the number of revolutions of an engine is increased to a given value during cranking in that a starter motor 26 is driven. This constitution permits reduction of the compression pressure of the engine, and enables reduction of the burden of the starter motor.
