PURPOSE:To obtain an identity collating device with which a collator can change the collating order by providing a means to set a change mode for the collating order and an input means to change and input the collating order of fingerprints while the change mode is set. CONSTITUTION:When the collating order is changed for the number of area registered fingerprints of a memory 7, a collator operates a change mode setting key. Thus the collating order under registration is displayed and a guide display is shown to select a finger to be changed. Then the collator pushes a keyboard 5 with reference to the number of the finger to be changed. A display is given to a display part 3 for selection of a desired order and the collator inputs numerically the desired collating order for the relevant finger. Thus the collating order set after change is displayed. A display inquiring continuation of the changing process is displayed and the collating order of another finger is changed when the collator inputs the continuation. The part 3 erges the collator for reconfirmation with input of the end of the changing process given from the collator. Then the collator reconfirms and inputs the end of the changing process. The collating order is registered into a file after update and the changing process is through.
