PURPOSE:To obtain a slider which stably levitates without damaging a magnetic disk caused by sliding by using a sintered material which mainly contains a spinel made of MgO. Al2O3 thereby to suppress the demagnetizing of the disk for a long period. CONSTITUTION:Spinel powder made of Ag2O3 and MgO having 99.5% of purity and 0.8mum of mean particle diameter is filled in a die for a hot press, heated under pressure of 30MPa in vacuum at the temperature rising velocity of 16 deg.C/min, temporarily held at 1850 deg.C for 1 hour, and then cooled to obtain a sintered material. The thermal expansion coefficient of the material is 7.8X10<-8>/ deg.C, 2.4X10<4>kg/mm<2> of Young' s modulus, 1200kg/mm<2> of Vickers hardness, 0.035Cal/cm. sec. deg.C of thermal conductivity, and 3.55 g/cm<3> of density. These values satisfy all physical values required for a magnetic head slider. Accordingly, a magnetic head slider formed of this spinel sintered material exhibits excellent sliding property. |
