PURPOSE:To obtain a low-cost high-performance lignin resin adhesive, by forming a resin from a modified lignin separated from a kraft pulp spent liquor, and mixing the formed lignin resin solution with resorcinol, a curing agent, etc. CONSTITUTION:A modified lignin is separated from a kraft pulp spent liquor, a by-product in the manufacture of pulp from wood by kraft pulping. This modified lignin or its mixture with a monohydric phenol (e.g., phenol) is dissolved in an alkaline water solution or an alkaline alcohol-water mixture. An aldehyde (e.g., formaldehyde) is then added to this solution for formylation, thus forming a ligning resin solution. This lignin resin solution is mixed with resorcinol and/or a resorcinol resin solution and a curing agent (e.g., paraformaldehyde), thus giving an objective ligning resin adhesive.
