NOVEL PROTEIN AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PURPOSE:To produce a protein useful for hepatitis type B vaccine, by modifying the surface antigen P31 protein of hepatitis virus B to insensitize at least one of the sites sensitive to trypsin-like protease, etc. CONSTITUTION:The surface antigen P31 protein of hepatitis virus B is modified for insensitizing at lest one of its trypsin-like protease sensitive sites to give a P31 modified protein having a hepatitis virus B surface antigen activity and a polymerized human serum albumin-combining ability. Subsequently, a transformant retaining DNAs contg. DNA coding the above-produced P31 modified protein is cultured. The P31 modified protein accumulated in the cultured product is collected.
