PURPOSE:To enhance productivity and quality stability, by so controlling that a pool of a thermal recording layer-forming coating liquid applied is continuous formed at an inlet part of a contact part between a base and a smoothening body for smoothening a thermal recording layer, in production of a thermal recording sheet. CONSTITUTION:A base coated with a coating liquid for forming a thermal recording layer is brought into contact with a smooth surface 14 of a cylinder roll by a press roll 11. In this case, a pool 12 of the excess coating liquid is formed, and a portion of the liquid drops into a pan 13. The coating liquid in the stage of making contact with the smooth surface 14 of the cylinder roll is dried by a hot-air drier 15, whereby a thermal recording sheet 16 is produced. The thermal recording sheet thus obtained has excellent surface properties, is free of ground fogging, is excellent in image quality and sensitivity, is free of dents due to foams in the thermal recording layer, and can maintain stable quality throughout the entire body thereof. |
