PURPOSE:To enable printing on mediums differing in width and enable smooth medium discharge after completion of a printing operation, by providing a first guide plate serving as a guide for one side edge of the medium at the time of feeding-in or discharging the medium, a second guide plate serving as a guide for the other side edge of the medium, a sensor for detecting the width of the medium, and a controlling part for moving a carrier. CONSTITUTION:Fixed guide plates 17, 18 are provided on opposite sides of a platen 16. One side edge 15a of a medium 15 is guided by a first guide plate 1, which is movable. The guide plate 1 is turned clockwise during printing so that it does not interfere with component parts of a second guide plate 5 or a carrier 6. The other side edge 15b of the medium 16 is guided by a second guide plate 5, which is fixed to the carrier 6 so that it can be moved over the platen 16 leftward and rightward along guide shafts 8, 9. For detection of the width of the medium, a plurality of photosensors 13a-13d are disposed on the face side and the back side of the medium. |
