PURPOSE:To improve the joining strength of a formed ceramic layer to metal by forming an oxide film on the surface of the hollow part of the tube, filling a powdery mixture of a highly reducing element with a metal oxide into the hollow part and heating the filled mixture. CONSTITUTION:A film of an oxide such as iron oxide is formed on the surface of the hollow part of a metal tube. A powdery mixture of a highly reducing element with a metal oxide is filled into the hollow part under pressure and the upper part of the filled mixture is heated to initiate a thermit reaction. While the position of the tube is controlled, the reaction is allowed to proceed to form a thick ceramic layer between the surface of the resulting melt and the surface of the inner wall. The metal wall is preferably cooled from the outside during the continuation of the reaction. By this method, the joining strength of the ceramic layer to metal can be improved. |
