PURPOSE:To make an underwater installation possible through reducing the diameter of an intermediate shaft by giving sealing means to the input and output sides of a propeller drive system supported with bearings and received in a casing, and affixing a sealing-water cover on the inside-ship side of the installation portion of a hull at a time of attachment or detachment. CONSTITUTION:Radial and thrust-direction loads affecting the propeller shaft 9 of a propulsion device for a vessel are received by means of radial and thrust bearings 16, 17 provided in a casing 5. Accordingly, an intermediate shaft 11 connected to the propeller shaft 9 does not receive directly the reaction force of thrust, and its diameter can be made to be smaller. Next, when the device is detached and then attached underwater, a coupling 19 is taken away and the intermediate shaft 11 is separated from the propeller shaft 9 and a sealing-water cover 23 is affixed on the inside of the installation portion 18a of a hull so as to cover the whole of the propulsion device, which is made to go back and is taken off from the hull 18. Next, the propulsion device is inserted into the hull 18 through the installation portion 18a on the side of the hull 18 and is fixed tightly to the installation portion 18a, and then the sealing-water cover 23 is taken away and the propeller shaft 9 is connected to the intermediate shaft 11 by means of the coupling 19, thus ending the marine work. |
