A transmitter (330) is used to direct microwave radiation against the stones (100) being measured, and the reflected radiation is picked up by a receiver (340) and sent to a processor (350) in order to convert the data into length, thickness and width measurements. An Independent claim is also included for the measuring apparatus (300).
