Means and a method for determination of a distance between a transmitting station and a receiving station is disclosed. In the method a characteristic parameter is determined for the radio propagation environment of the receivi ng station. At least one feature of a signal that has been received at the receiving station is measured, said feature being such that it can be used f or the determination of the distance between the stations. The distance is then computed based on said measured signal feature and the characteristic parameter.
