PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound at a low cost, by condensing a readily available 5-bromopentanal compound with 1-methyl-1-benzyloxycarbonyl-1,2,3,4- tetrahydro-beta-carboline in the presence of an alkali metal carboxylate. CONSTITUTION:A 5-bromopentanal compound expressed by formula I (R<2> is H or 1-7C alkyl) is condensed with a 1-methyl-1-benzyloxycarbonyl-1,2,3,4- tetrahydro-beta-carboline expressed by formula II (R<1> is H, alkyl, alkoxy or halogen; Bn is benzyl) in the presence of an alkali metal caboxylate expressed by formula III (R<3> is alkyl or phenyl; M is alkali metal), e.g. sodium benzoate, etc., to afford the aimed vincadifformine benzyl ester expressed by formula IV, which becomes a precursor for various indolealkaloids having pharmacological activity. |
