PURPOSE:To eliminate the insertion loss due to an optical branching member by providing a flexible substrate and optical fibers fixed to the substrate with an adhesive, polishing away the clad layers by know technique with a refractive index matching agent, and thus manufacturing an optical branching structure. CONSTITUTION:A sectionally V-shaped groove is formed in a flexible substrate 1 and an optical fiber 10 is put therein. The optical fiber 10 is equipped with a core 11 as an optical waveguide and a clad layer which is low in refractive index than the core and fixed to the substrate 1 with an adhesive layer 3. A branching element raw material 100 is worked to remove the clad layer 12 partially until the core 11 is exposed, thus manufacturing a branching element 101. The substrate 1 of the branching element 101 is formed almost to the diameter of a pipe 102 where an optical branching device is stored, a photoelectric converting element 110 as a branching means is fixed right above the clad removed part of the optical fiber 10 mounted on the branching element 101, and the refractive index matching agent 103 which has the same refractive index with the core 11 is charged in the pipe 102 which contains them. |
