The plug valve has a plug valve housing 1 in which the closing cone, consisting of a swivelling yoke 3 and a spherical cap 5 attached thereto, is composed of ceramic material. In the closed position, this spherical cap rests against a valve seat ring 15. The spherical cap 5 has a cone 6 which projects into a hole 8 in the swivelling yoke 3. Machined into the cone 6 there is furthermore an annular groove 7 into which a split ring 10 engages with a contact shoulder 11. A mating ring with a tapered shoulder 13 is screwed into the hole 8 in the swivelling yoke 3 against this ring 10. <IMAGE>
