A gumming device for applying adhesive on to cardboard blanks on a packing machine, on which the blanks are fed successively between a gumming roller partially immersed in a vessel (10) containing adhesive, and a pressure element (11); the gumming roller presenting peripheral projections having grooves (23) designed to contain adhesive and apply the same on to given portions of the blanks (1), and surplus adhesive being removed from the gumming roller by means of a mobile scraper element (21) designed to follow the profile of the gumming roller by virtue of a cam element (28). <IMAGE>
