PURPOSE:To improve the portability of an IC card by using a means which performs comparison between the amount of purchase and the cash balance in terms of a debt card and then comparison between the amount of purchase and the credit balance in terms of a credit card and therefore securing both functions just with a single IC card. CONSTITUTION:A storage memory read/write controller 17 of an IC card 10 controls the write/read of data to a storage memory 23 in response to a command given from a central controller 16. The memory 23 includes a debt area 231 storing the information used in the form of a debt card and the balance information is also stored in this area 231. A credit area 232 of the memory 23 stores the information used in the form of a credit card and also stores the credit balance as the balance information. In an application mode of a debt card, the amount of purchase supplied by a reader/writer is compared with the balance information. While the amount of purchase is compared with the credit balance in an application mode of a credit card. |
