Water-soluble salts of poly- alpha -hydroxyacrylic acids whose sodium salts have an average molecular weight in the range from 2,000 to 10,000, are used as stabilisers in peroxide bleaching of cellulose material in aqueous alkaline medium and are employed, in particular, in the form of stock solutions which, in addition to the poly- alpha -hydroxyacrylate, contain an alkali metal hydroxide in aqueous solution; the invention in particular also relates to the corresponding novel polylactones and their use in the bleaching process. |
