An apparatus for simplified and shortened membrane filtration having at least one suction cup, which can be connected to a vacuum source and which has a fitted liquid-permeable rest device for the membrane filter, and a sample container, for the liquid to be filtered, sealed to the suction cup is characterised in that the suction cup (10) and the rest device (12) for the membrane filter (17) form a unit and are alternatively separable from the sample container (8) or sealable to it, the bottom end of the sample container (8) is provided with a thrust edge (9) which can be forced against a thrust abutment (14) surrounding the rest device (12) and devices (15,16) are provided by which a membrane filter sheet (17) exceeding the dimensions of the rest device can be laid onto the rest device (12) when the sample container (8) is removed. <IMAGE>
