The invention relates to a reflector for a motor vehicle headlight comprising a reflecting quadric 1 which is substantially in the shape of a paraboloid of revolution intersected by upper 4 and lower 5 segmenting planes, an electric lamp filament being placed substantially at the focus F of the said quadric 1 in order to provide the dip illumination by the reflection on the said quadric 1 of the light beams emitted by the said filament, and passage through an optical glass placed in front of the said quadric 1. The reflector according to the invention is characterised in that it comprises, at least on the extreme lateral part of its lower segmenting plane 5 corresponding to the end of the oblique plane 7 of the incident dip beam rays determining the normalised cutting of the said beam, ribs 6 formed of reflecting parabolic elements, having parameters such that these elements pick up and reflect the useful portions of incident rays, which are initially lost, in the direction of the glass lens.
