A process for producing a seat cushion or backrest cushion is described, in which a covering is laid in a casting mould and is fixed on the casting mould by means of a clamping frame. Subsequently the casting mould is closed with a lid and the covering is laid closely against the contour of the casting mould. Subsequently the covering is foam-backed with a plastic foam. In the process, an at least two-part covering is laid in the casting mould, at least one covering part being air-impermeable and at least a second covering part being air-permeable. The covering parts are joined to one another along common edges. On the/each air-permeable covering part a dimensionally stable insert part is arranged. An impermeable film is subsequently fastened to the/each air-impermeable covering part in the vicinity of the/each insert part in such a manner that said film covers the circumferential surface of the insert part. The impermeable film is subsequently attached to the lid and the casting mould is closed with the lid. After the complete foaming and the shaping, a separate cushion part is arranged in the cushion space formed by the insert part. In this manner, a cushion is produced which has a covering of at least two covering parts, a preferably air-permeable cushion part and a second part of the cushion which is made of foam, surrounds the cushion part and serves for the dimensional stability of the cushion.
