Process for denitrifying water

For the microbial denitrification of water, in order to prevent impairment of water quality which is unavoidable with anaerobic processes, an aerobic process using naturally occurring aerobic denitrifying organisms is proposed. To carry out the process, nitrate-containing water, enriched with oxygen or containing added oxygen-releasing substances, is introduced into the subsoil and the redox potential of the transported water is kept in a range which is at most slightly oxidative (rH:17-20).
