PURPOSE:To stably control sheet temp. at outlet side without any influence of changing factors, such as passing rate of the steel sheet, cooling water temp., etc., by mixing a partial of cooling waste water with supplying new water and adjusting the mixing ratio in the cooling method using the water cooling jacket. CONSTITUTION:The cooling water is introduced into the water cooling jacket 1 from supplying hole at downstream side of running course of the steel sheet S and after flowing forcibly as straightening flow along the both side surface of the steel sheet toward reverse direction of the running course of the steel sheet, it is drained from discharged hole. In this cooling apparatus, the cooling waste water is circulated by returning pipe 6, to be reused for adjusting cooling water temp. And, a computing element 15 calculates rate of circulating water to new water, to become the supplied cooling water temp. to the prescribed temp., based on detecting value from thermometer 7 for circulating water, flow meter 9 for the afore-said water, thermometer 11 for new cooling water, flowmeter 13 for the afore-said water and thermometer 14 for inlet side of steel sheet. The calculating result is inputted into flow rate controllers 16, 17, and the opening degree of the circulating water and new water flow rate adjusting valves 8, 12 are adjusted to be supplied to the jacket 1 as cooling water having the prescribed temp. while mixing the circulating water with the new water by the mixing device 18.
