PURPOSE:To prevent two polarizing plates from being scratched by dust and, at the same time, to improve the slidability of the polarizing plates, by protecting both sides of the polarizing plates with protective plates and, in addition, providing a sealing member and outer peripheral frame along the outer peripheral margin of the protective plates. CONSTITUTION:In Polarizing plates 1 and 2 on the movable and fixed sides of a light transmitting quantity adjusting device used for the window of automobiles, etc., two kinds of polarizing films (a) and (b) having different polarizing directions are alternately arranged in a belt-like state. Both sides of the polarizing plates 1 and 2 are protected by transparent plates 6 and 7 and a seal cover 8 and metallic outer peripheral frame 9 are provided along the outer peripheral margin of the transparent plates 6 and 7. By using this constitution, the movable-side polarizing plate 1 is slid manually or through remote control and the light transmitting quantity is adjusted depending upon the overlapped state of the polarizing films (a) and (b). Therefore, the polarizing plates 1 and 2 can be prevented from being scratched by dust which enters inside and, at the same time, the intensity of this device can be improved by means of the frame so as to improve the slidability of the polarizing plate 1.
